Frenzal Rhomb and Kerb at The Planet
The Planet nightclub is a great venue. I forgot how great it was until I stepped foot in there again last night. People started dwindling in about 8:30 when doors opened, but it wasn't until 9:30 when a decent crowd finally showed up. Kerb hit the stage at this time, complete with smoke and a funky number to start the night. A few poeple decided that this was them and started having a skippy kinda dance thing going on the dance floor.
Although I can't remember what their songs were called, I was impressed with the tightness in which the whole gig was played. For the speed and punk these guys play, they're bloody tight. They finished off with an awesome song. I must find out the name of this?? The backups for the night were great and gave it that real punk feel. The highlight of the whole night would definately have been when Steve dropped his pants and gave a little moon to the crowd, only after the crowd asked Jason to take his pants off though.
Next to the stage was the very Sydney Frenzal Rhomb. I was chatting to these guys back stage, and they seem to have a good time. I don't know where half of their gear was though, as they had to borrow a guitar strap and power cord for the marshall head. The mix was a bit out with vocals being way over the top. Eventually the mixer got this right, and the sound was great (although very loud and bassy as the planet can only be). The only problem I had with this band was the drummer constantly leaving his kit, and speaking in the mic constantly. I don't know, they seemed to jin around alot between songs, like they were wasting time. Apart from this, Frenzal Rhomb were very tight, awesome to watch as Jason likes to strut his stuff around stage, and sound punky. Genius went down very well, as did Fuck off you fucking fuck wit, you can't move into my fucking house. The pit had a good time and there would be a few battered heads this morning. Especially when one guy, wearing a British flag as a shirt, had a stage dive and landed on his head. Frenzal Rhomb are great guys and a great band, they have taken over what the Meanies left up for grabs, a mosh pit from hell with fast paced riffs and screams.
